Proliferation of Data Centers in the Wrong Places

Data centers facilities may be a permanent part of our current existence, but our county now has incompatible data centers next to homes, schools, and parks.  These huge buildings require massive transmission lines, dedicated substations, generate noise 24-7, consume massive amounts of water and power, and create issues with groundwater supply and threats to watersheds due to their building and parking impervious surfaces.

When PWC completes all the data centers already approved as of Jan 2022, we will have 6 MILLION MORE square feet of data centers than Loudoun County has now! THAT’S 33 MILLION SQUARE FEET OF DATA CENTERS IN PWC!

WHY ARE ANY MORE DATA CENTERS NEEDED IN PWC?

This outlines proposed and built out data centers in the Gainesville area based on data as of 6/29/22:  Map DCOZOD 2 with Operating Under Devel DC County Offices 062922

This outlines all the built-out, approved, and in planning PWC data centers, as well as available parcels in the Data Center Overlay District – as of Dec. 7, 2022:  PWC Data Center Parcels (This breakdown DOES NOT include the 27M sq. ft. of data centers in the Digital Gateway proposal).

To visually appreciate the full magnitude of data centers across our county see the map in this article.
